As with so many others in this thread - I learned so much doing Mardini and had a blast doing so. I was dreading KineFX week, as a non-animator, but wow does that open doors for someone who likes to code. It was Solaris ended up being the toughest week!
Thanks for organizing - and I'll be back for the next event for sure.

Wow this one was painful - had no idea how to set it up and had to learn to do comp inside Houdini. Got it semi working in the end so a day late, but done.

I didn't have a horse model - so two actors came to my rescue. Fortunately the front legs actor is very athletic!
Mapped the back actor to the rear legs and some of the horses spine, mapped the front actor to the front legs, his spine is the neck and his head the head.
Had trouble working with animation clips for the first time - and with trying to make a horse costume out of vellum

The core of this is based on the amazing video by Junichiro Horikawa (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnkXQrEVY2)
I extended their approach by supporting multiple robots, each is from a fracture of a larger shape so each has different numbers of legs. The 'stash' behavior of the skeleton node made it hard to work out how to control them in a for-loop so the robots actually share a single skeleton under the hood and some careful naming to make it all work. I also added a flocking motion for how they move around (then ran time backwards for the assemble effect).

Our panicked tree is back - this time he is worried about missing out on a passing sun beam.
It's remarkable how simple the final graph ends up looking. I'll probably stick with the tree and see if I can get IK chains working on all branches automatically too.

The panicking tree!
Starting to get the hang of this node a little more - doing large group selections so that you get a gradual bend over the remainder of the group.
Amazing what you can get from so few nodes!
'Burned' a lot of time trying to work out how to get the tree gen curve to automatically form a skeleton with the right parenting, but ended up assigning branches by hand to get this done in time - if anyone knows an easy tool for doing that let me know.

Walk before you can run... crawl before you can walk? (the gummies seem to be on the way to learning to fly though)
I had no idea what I was doing at the start of this... and just a hint of what I'm doing by the end of it.

Got tied up with figuring out how instancing worked in Redshift with custom attributes - so not much time for anything more than a single render. That said, I am happy I worked out how to to do per instance modifications driving the front and back half of the worms.

Had a more complex simulation in mind to start where objects would flow from one cable to the next but had to simplify to get this done in time.
Most happy with the automatic placement of the ball generators at the head of each cable.

Ugh - not happy with this one - and overtime too! Tried to tie the spread of the lightning to a pyro spread but got tangled sorting the start / end points out with a for loop
On the up side I learned a lot as I was going along!

Was a bit stumped for what to do with this one and did not have much time this evening. Then I noticed you can animate both the cutter and the item being cut, and if you move the item being cut off center things get... interesting so I made.... this.

The gummy worms from day one are back! Boy are they hard to control... Learned a lot about instancing in a sim whilst randomizing attributes - including the classic two tone gummy worm
